Vietnam Part 7: Mekong Delta Biking

Sommer looked up a fun thing for us to do: bike along the Mekong Delta.  I'm not the biggest biker, but I had started my Summer doing some biking on Megan's bike back in Austin, so I was up for it.  We got picked up by two dudes in a white van.  We stopped off the edge of the road after driving for a couple hours out to the Mekong Delta.  We had packed our backpacks with essentials... then we were told not to worry about it.  We should just leave our backpacks with them.  So we did.  We left everything with this strange man.  In a white van.  And when I say everything, I mean all our money and our passports.  I'm writing this blog as a retrospective, and obviously I've not been sold into sex trafficking, so things worked out okay.  But... yeah... if I had to name the stupidest thing I did on this trip, it was definitely this.  I'm just thankful they ended up being just as trustworthy as we thought.  One point for humanity and good people!

Excited!

Excited...?

Our bike guide Luck Nguyen.  He was a great guide, like I said, super trustworthy.  Knowledgeable.  Avid biker.  He knew we were novices, so he took it easy on us.

We had to hop on a few ferries to get to good bikeworthy islands.

We stopped and got lunch.  Naturally it was banh xeo.  The bike tour was all-inclusive.  So food was included.  And that yummy "O" green tea you see there.  It's a good thing though... because like I said earlier... we had no money on us.

Luck got us a whole bag of rambutan!

Hopped onto another little boat/ferry thing.  Saw some other white people and got excited. During our bike ride, some Australians ran into us and yelled, "HEY WHITE PEOPLE!"  Now, I know Sommer is white... but... they said PEOPLE so...

We still look pretty happy about our decision for a bike ride.

Panoramic of the Mekong Delta.  Which is HUGE.

Floating river city

Watching a woman making banh trang

Watching coconut candy being made/mixed.

We stopped for some tea and candies

Toward the end of the ride, there was a TORRENTIAL FLOW OF RAIN

So we stopped.  And took this awesomely wet picture.  I'm glistening.  GLISTENING!

Surprisingly enough, that was all the damage that was done to this outfit.

Went to a restaurant just up the street from our hotel.  If you look out the window, I could've been in any major city anywhere in the world.

Italian pizza in Saigon, Vietnam.

Do I Look Like A Rabbit?

The return of the 6-word memoir!  I think forcing myself to be creative with my titles will help me to write more/better.  Probably not.  It's worth a shot.  Maybe.

Anyway, why am I asking if I look like a rabbit?  Because I'm sitting at my desk eating kale chips.  Which are oh-so-yummy, but also kind of weird to sit and eat greedily at your desk.  And I do mean greedily.  Part of me wants to eat it before I make it to the lunch room, because my coworkers like to try food.  And I'm a food hoarder.  And I want to eat all my kale chips.  That's fatboy thinking, isn't it?  Yes.  Yes it is.

Speaking of fatboy.  I'm ready to not be.  I blame this partially on my dear friend Caleigh.  She bought me a really cute bowl/spoon/chopstick set.  The bowl says ramen on it.  So naturally I bought a 24-pack and ate 8 of them in a span of 3 days.  3 days.  Damn you Caleigh.

Anyway, I'm starting again.  I know you don't believe me, because if I went through my blog, you'd probably find several other times I've said this.  But I mean it this time.  And it's not a diet thing.  It's a life-thing.  No more eating out and eating shit.  More cooking in general.  Even if it's cooking shit, it's better than eating out shit right?  This is starting to sound gross.  I'm going to stop that now.

I haven't quite started going to the gym yet.  But I am playing a lot more tennis.  I'll get back to the gym.  I should probably find books I really want to read on the elliptical, that always worked.

Okay, I am off to eat my kale chips at a 7th grade math teacher meeting.  I don't mind sharing with them.

You want my kale chips, don't you?

Instructions (LC asked in the comments, so I figured I'd just post them here if anyone was curious/interested):

Cover a baking sheet with parchment/wax paper.
Cut off the kale leaves into bite size pieces (in general, the smaller the better, or at least, make it uniform so they all cook about the same)
Spread on the sheet and drizzle olive oil on top Sprinkle with salt (I prefer kosher salt so it's thicker)
Bake on 350 for about maybe... 8-10 minutes? Or until the ends get brownish.

Warrior Dash 2011!

11/19 - A couple of months ago my cousins and some of our friends (i.e., David's friends) started talking about doing the Central Texas (read: right outside of Austin) Warrior Dash.  If you're not sure what that is, click here.

The guys took it (just slightly) more seriously than the girls (i.e., Melynda and myself).  She and I (for the most part) took the entire thing at a pretty leisurely pace.  Definitely post-any mud in our shoes (read like: "mud in your tires") we were NOT planning on picking up the pace... the squishy feeling between my toes still makes me exhausted just to think about it.

Anyway, here's some before & after shots:

Thomas, Donson, Thu, Jon, Jimmy, me & Melynda pre-race

Donson, Melynda, Jon, Thu, me, Thomas & Jimmy... post (obvs) race

When I see this picture, all I can think is that LMFAO song, "I'm Sexy and I Know It"

We also ran into a few other people, like Anh Van, for one.  I also saw my roommate Danielle and some of her friends.  One of my favorite parts of the day?  When we all went to get hosed down... and the guys (who obviously couldn't resist after seeing it) wrestled each other in the mud pit that resulted in hundreds (thousands?) of people being hosed down.

Out One Day... Walking One Day...

10/22 - Thomas and I went for a long walk in our neighborhood.  We walked down Balcones and up towards Mt. Bonnell... this was our final view:

Oh Austin...

This was our route!

We'll probably start "running" this route at some point... maybe... or never.

Party in the USA CCU!

9/15 - Thomas and I headed up to Dallas just a bit earlier than expected.  Thursday morning we woke up and went to the tennis courts.  I guess we were feeling particularly athletic that morning.  When we were done (I think I called it a tie at 6-6 because I couldn't remember how to do a proper tie-breaker) Thomas checked his phone and saw a message from his parents.  Apparently his grandpa (maternal) had a heart attack that morning.  He thankfully was already at the hospital because he wasn't feeling too hot before it happened.  Thomas and I decided to head up there a day early.  We surprised him in the hospital.  He seemed like absolutely nothing had happened to him.  That's Larry for ya.

Thomas's dad talking to his grandpa Baugh

Thomas and I took a bike ride or two (it actually didn't count our last 3 miles or so!)

Thomas during one of our breaks on the bike ride around White Rock Lake

He Shoots!

SHE SCORES!  ;)

Umm, we went to town, and yes, that says 881 tickets.

I went to a bridal salon and tried on a ton of bridesmaid dresses for Katie.  This was one of my winners... pretty color and it looked good too!  Ignore the look on my face, I couldn't tell if the lady was getting my face in the picture or not!  :)

The Wilder & Baughs went to Club Schmitz on Saturday night :)

Rachel came out too!  LOVE LOVE LOVE!

She made a new best friend that night...

I practically gave that win to Thomas's mom and Rachel.

Skinny Bitch Lessons - Chapter 2: Carbs: The Truth

It's been awhile, but I'm trying to get back on this... and I'm trying to get my mind off of other things, so what better way than to be productive and eat healthy and hopefully lose some weight too?

So here we are, a chapter dedicated to the truth about carbohydrates:

1. Simple Carbs-BAD: There are two types. The ones you want to stay away from are the simple ones. "They are mostly made up of sugar, which releases too quickly, almost violently, into our bodies, causing 'sugar highs' and then 'crashes.' This tends to leave us feeling hungry, so we eat more." Well that effing explains it. What foods are simple carbs? WHITE foods. I don't mean foods that white people eat (although a lot of it IS), but I mean white foods like, white flour, paster, bread, rice... sugar (duh, right?) Basically these foods have been bastardized to the point where all of their nutrients have been taken out. For example, "... they took natural grains, like brown rice and whole wheat, and stripped away all their nutrients, vitamins, and minerals to achieve the color and texture change." Don't be fooled, though. Some companies try to add said nutrients back in and call them enriched or fortified. Our bodies know the difference. It's not the same.

This is not what I mean when I said "white bread"

2. Complex Carbs-GOOD: Then we have the complex carbs, which have other things in it like starch and fiber. These things are released into our body as energy at a more steady pace... and therefor we don't get the highs and crashes. So what are some foods with complex carbs? "Bask in the glory of potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, barley, corn, brown rice, beans, hummus, lentils, quinoa... millet, and pasta made from brown rice, whole wheat, or vegetables." Key: WHOLE WHEAT, WHOLE GRAINS!!!!

Yes plz!

3. Fruit: EAT FRUIT! They're basically badass. Not only should you eat fruit, you should eat it first thing in the morning when you've still got an empty stomach. (Apparently if you eat it with other foods it can't be digested as well... which means it "rots and ferments"--YAY!--in your belly). Anyway, eat it first thing in the morning and you'll get a boost of energy in the morning! This is particularly great for me since I am REALLY BAD at eating food in the morning (breakfast was just never my thing). So if I eat some fruit or make a fruit slushie (just throw some frozen fruit and water or juice in a blender and voila! Instant yumminess!), I get some energy and a jumpstart for my metabolism!

Yes, these guys are good for you

Hope some of this helped? Like my last post, kind of obvious... but it's helped me a bit! :)

A Skinny Bitch and A Skinny Bastard

Oh yeah, we got that cash money!

Back in March, Thomas and I entered into a bet with my siblings. 7 people total. $100 each. The person who lost the most percentage of weight wins half the money and the person who lost the most percentage of body fat.

Well I lost the most weight percentage and Thomas lost the most body fat percentage! :)

Yay for us!

Skinny Bitch Lessons - Chapter 1: Give It Up

So I'm reading yet ANOTHER book. No I haven't finished with Garp yet, nor have I finished with Silas Marner... but this one was necessary to my success as the winner of $600 (this week was not-too-great, so that money is slowly slipping away). Anyway... back to what I was saying...

A few weeks ago I was listening to Loveline. I listen to Loveline almost every Tuesday and Thursday night. Why is that? Are the callers the most interesting on those nights? No. I'm just usually over at Lisa and Mike's long enough for me to leave their home when Loveline is on. A couple of months ago I was listening and they have a porn star as their guest. (I can't remember her name, and I'd attempt to google it to try to remember it, but I'm currently at school and I don't need AISD knowing that I like to google porn star names.) Someone called in asking about either weight loss tips or admitted to binge eating or who knows what. I don't actually remember the caller at all, I just remember that the porn star mentioned that she lost a ton of weight after she went vegan. (No, I don't think I'm going vegan, can't do it, sorry.) She said she read this book, Skinny Bitch, and it totally and completely changed her life. I figured, hell, I can give it a shot. Reading it that is... again, I do NOT plan on going vegan. I do like my meats. Especially Anh Vinny's korean bbq. I dream about it. Literally, I have had DREAMS in which I am devouring Anh Vinny's korean bbq. Where was I? Oh yeah.

I refused to buy it full price because... when Half Price Books exists, WHY is ANYONE paying full price for books? I had a hard time finding it at HPB though. I think it's because I didn't know if I'd find it in the food section, the self help section, the diet and fitness section or... well you get the point. I finally found it last weekend though and after LITERALLY reading the FIRST two pages, it already changed my outlook on certain foods. I don't know if it's the CUSSING that is so rampant that makes their argument so convincing, or just the fact that it's something published in a decently recognizable book and not a random online article. To be honest, the cussing took me off guard at first. It was funny and amusing at first, like in 6th grade when we had a bus driver (Mr. Bynum) that liked to cuss at us. A semi-authoritative figure that CUSSED at us? We respected the dude because we felt he treated us with respect (because he cussed at us?) and I bet none of Y'ALL remember YOUR 6th grade bus driver's name. Anyway, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I did realize that the NAME of the book is Skinny Bitch... so I don't really know what else I was expecting. Anyway, I find their writing mostly conversational (which makes it easier to understand and relate to) except for the few times they get all technical and chemical on me.

I've only read the first 2 chapters, but like I said, it has made a decent impact in the way I view foods and other health related items. They said things that you KNOW, but since they say it in terms so DEMANDING, it kind of makes me want to pay attention and actually do something about it. Does that make sense? Probably not, I should probably just get to the point. I've read the first two chapters to Thomas over the phone the past couple of nights and we take a few lessons from each that we're going to try to focus on and thus slowly turn into Skinny Bitches (or Bastards!)

I don't think Thomas believed me that this existed...

Okay so, I thought I'd share the lessons I've learned with you guys since a good chunk of y'all who take the time to read my blog are doing some kind of weight loss or healthy eating regimen. I figure as time goes by I'll do some updates to add more lessons. I'll tag these as "SkinnyBitch" in case you want to find them. We'll see how well I keep up with these. Also, after the second chapter post, I have a good addition to the Reasons why blah blah Thomas list. You'll see what I mean. So, here are some quotes I enjoyed and/or things I've learned from Chapter 1, Give It Up:

"Okay. Use your head. You need to get healthy if you want to get skinny. Healthy = skinny. Unhealthy = fat. The first thing you need to do is give up your gross vices. Don't act surprised! You cannot keep eating the same shit and expect to get skinny."

1. Smoking. I don't smoke. I wouldn't call myself a smoker. To be honest, I have on occasion taken a drag of a cigarette here and there... and this often happens when I'm already drunk. I never crave cigarettes or anything like that, so this one isn't really a tip for myself, but a good tip in general to keep in mind. :) "Not only do they screw up your whole body chemistry, but they also kill your taste buds. It's no wonder you eat shit and garbage."
2. Drinking. If I could just quote everything they say about this I would, but let's just take some snippets. "Beer is for frat boys, not skinny bitches. It makes you fat, bloated, and farty." None of this is too complicated for me right now, seeing as how I more or less did give up drinking. Not that I ever drank that much to begin with, but I limit it to special occasions... not... Friday nights in front of the tv... they say more terrible things about alcohol and how it affects your body. They did suggest drinking (if you must) "organic red wine produced without sulfites... This magical elixir--rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants, can reduce risk of stroke, helps thin the blood, and has flavonoids, which lower cholesterol."
3. Soda. They refer to it as "liquid Satan." They say a few things about how nothing in soda is anything that was meant to be put into your body, which was fair enough and not really something I didn't know. But then they SLAM the diet sodas. "Now don't go patting yourself on the back if you drink diet soda. That stuff is even worse. Aspartame... has been blamed for a slew of scary maladies..." here they list about 1,000 things and then inform us that the aspartame can eventually turn into formaldehyde. * "Laboratory scientists use formaldehyde as a disinfectant or preservative. They don't fucking drink it!" They they add, "When aspartame is paired with carbs, it causes your brain to slow down its production of serotonin... So drinking soda can make you fat, sick, and unhappy." They suggest drinking lots and lots of water (your daily dose of 64 oz). After all it "is vital for keeping your body clean and detoxified." And I LOVE WATER!
4. Coffee. Sorry Mike & Johnny. "Coffee is for pussies." Basically they go over how human beings should be (and are made to) function without the use of caffeine. They then list a slew of more problems that caffeine is responsible for (e.g., headaches, digestive problems, etc.) They then talk about how decaf isn't all that great either, because coffee (regular or decaf) is highly acidic. "Acidic foods cause your body to produce fat cells, in orrder to keep the acid away from your organs. (Please don't link this acid issue to citrus and other fruits)." Apparently we'll discuss the latter part of that later. They do at least say that if it's just the occasional cup, it's okay, one cup won't kill you I guess. Their alternative? Herbal tea--decaffeinated of course, or rather, "organic, of course". Also, fresh-squeezed organic juice. Apparently "[o]nce you are rid of your caffeine addition, you will get totally high from fresh-squeezed juice."
5. Junk Food. "Whenever you see the words 'fat-free' or 'low-fat,' think of the words 'chemical shit storm.' Read the ingredients. Do you really think sugar or hydrogenated oils or eggs or milk won't make you fat?" Apparently there are some acceptable junk foods and we'll be learning about that in Chapter 11 :)
6. Pills. At first I thought I could skip this part, because I'm not on any medication and if anything, those goons at my doctor's office should read this. HOWEVER, they did talk about over the counter pain killers, which I use decently often has I am prone to gross headaches. "Every time you take medicine, you interfere with your body's natural ability to heal itself. You are alleviating those intelligent responses that alert you to a problem, and sending false signals to your brain. If you have a headache, you might be tired, dehydrated, or suffering from a minor food allergy." Basically, take better care of your body and it will function like the perfect machine it was made to function as.
7. Working Out. Nothing you don't already know here. You can't expect to do nothing (or even eat right and do nothing) and expect to become a skinny bitch. One nice tip they did give was "[a]im for working out in the morning, if you can. When we exercise, our elevated heart rates and deep breathing cause our 'bodyminds' to enter a fat-burning mode that can last throughout the day." They also mention (and I whole-heartedly agree from experience) that when you exercise, the likelihood of you wanting to put junk food and other crap in your body is slim.

So, after reading all of this, I've found that my desire for soda (small to begin with) has lessened, my desire for coffee has DEFINITELY lessened (I don't need it), I'll try to work out in the mornings when I can and keep myself hydrated to avoid headaches. Alrighty. That is it for now. Hope y'all enjoyed it!

*Please keep in mind that one of the authors is described as a "self-taught know-it-all" and the other has a Masters of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition. So... take what they say with a grain of salt, I know I am. :)

Weight Loss -- They're Just Like Us! #1: Jennifer Hudson

So one of those tabloid mags often has a section where they point out how celebrities are just like us (e.g., they walk their dog, they go to Starbucks, they pick wedgies). Well, my sister just blogged about this dude and his weight loss and it reminded me how often actors have to worry about their weight. Sometimes they HAVE to gain and then lose for roles and yada yada. Other times they're just sick of playing the big girl... which is what I'm guessing Jennifer Hudson did. She said she just wanted to feel BETTER about herself. And she should now! Anyway, here's her before and after and just part of my inspiration for getting off my ass and working out.

If she can do it, I can do it!

Lean Mean Green

Lean Mean Green

I decided to whip out my old ipod shuffle. I've been going to the gym and using my iphone which is mostly fine. Sometimes it's a little awkward when I'm on the machines, but I've figured out ways to keep it out of the way, but I figured I should commit to the gym a little better and use my awesome shuffle that the Wilders gave to me a few Christmases ago (our first Christmas?)

Anyway, okay, gotta make sure I put some butt-busting tunes on!

Just a Friendly (Familial) Competition...

This weekend, Chi Hong had a CE class in Austin. Anh Vien and Hayden came to accompany her and they stayed at Lisa and Mike's. Chi Thu decided to come up and hang out too.

This was a really fun weekend. Thinking back, I don't think we actually DID a whole lot (I think the only time we all left the house together was to go to the park where some of us played tennis and some of us played on the playground), but we did have a ton of fun just hanging out around the house and playing with the boys and... talking. We're a family of talkers so there was plenty of talking to go around. After a lot of talking...

We came up with great motivation: Money.

Money is TOTALLY a motivator for us.

We wagered a total of $100. In three months, whoever loses the most weight percentage wise wins half and whoever loses the most fat percentage wins the other half.

Best case scenario, I lose a whole bunch of weight and WIN $600.

Worse case scenario, I lose some weight and pay $100 to a family member who lost a bunch of weight.

Either way, this is gonna be awesome.

Chicken Scaloppini

First new recipe, mission accomplished!

I made it with asparagus and potatoes. It wasn't the best thing I've ever made, but what I made definitely looked like what the picture is. It wasn't the most flavorful chicken I've ever had, but it WAS from a diet magazine, so I guess I can't expect it to taste like... something mouthwateringly awesome.

Anyway, on a scale from 1 to 10, I give it a... 6.5/10. Better than average, worse than good. Who knows, maybe my leftovers will be delicious and totally change my mind.

I didn't take a picture. I'll have to remember to do that in the future.

Mission Accomplished: I Finally Beat Thomas

Back in January 2010, in a blog post regarding motivations for getting back in shape and losing weight, I wrote this as a motivator:
To be a match for Thomas on the tennis court.

When Thomas and I first started playing together, we had a knock down drag out 20+ games to see who would win by at least 2 games. I don't remember who won/lost, but I do remember that this is quite possibly the first and last time I was ever a match for him. I hate when he beats me at anything. Physically, he is obviously superior to me, but I could at least make it a bit harder for him. Once this is done, the next goal will be to win ONE SET (just one) against Buddy.

Last night, Sunday, January 30th, 2011, I finally accomplished this. I won ONE set (which for us counted as a match, because we were on a time crunch) 7-5. It was sweet, sweet victory.

So... I guess it's time to challenge Buddy? :P (Yeah, right!)

Because I Really Suck At Updating

Here are the links to two of my sister's blogs:

Lisa's Blog: http://lisalonghorn.blogspot.com/

Thu's Blog: http://thulovealways.blogspot.com/

They have already posted photos from the family reunion/Amanda's going away shindig. I will try to see about getting all of that blogged about tonight. I still haven't blogged about the rest of Boston... or about Amanda's grad... so... we'll see how that goes :)

Anthro's been going AWESOMELY well because they've had to cut back hours on people due to inventory going over, yada yada yada... yesterday and the Monday before, I got off right around 8:30, right when our last customer left! It was aweso!!!! Then closing Wednesday night seemed like it'd be hell because it was mostly new hires (can you believe it, I'm considered "seasoned!") who hadn't ever closed before. There were some hiccups (I'm convinced this one girl doesn't have a clue what to actually do during closing and instead she just got really good at looking busy) but all in all it looked really good! I love pretty much all of my managers and even have some girl crushes on them. I've gotten to know a number of my fellow employees really well and I really like some of them!

Alright, back to real work.

BTW--I'm restarting a workout regimen. Or... something. We'll also have to see how THAT goes! (It's been quite awhile...)

A Bones-Heavy Stream of Consciousness Update

There are some things a-brewing in my life. I'm not 100% sure where I stand or how I feel, but when/if they happen... you'll know... because... I'll blog about it. :) In the meantime, this post will be a completely disjointed blog about random things running through my mind.

I haven't worked out nearly as much as I thought I'd start working out again. I believe this is due to my want/need/infatuation/obsession for/with Bones (mostly Booth, from Bones).

I haven't read anything at all lately.

If I'm not watching Bones, I'm probably doing Harry Potter Trivia. I will be studying that tonight. For tomorrow. Because I WILL kick ass. Tomorrow is Harry Potter Pub Trivia @ Opal Divine's. LC is supposed to be on my team. She's doing better than she was a couple of weeks ago... but... I don't know. I need to make sure Jon (my cousin) is ready for this. OMG he better be ready for this. I wish Katie was coming. Alas, she is busy. But man I wish Katie was coming! :) Right now it's just me, LC & Jon on my team.

Booth.

By the way this post is being written as a stream of consciousness (as are most of my blogs, but as this one doesn't really have much of a purpose, it'll be more apparent). Hence, there will be random mentions of the new leading man in my life.

Luke does this new thing where he scrunches up his face and it's almost too much to handle.

Yesterday, LC came with me and Johnny to our regular Thursday dinners at Lisa & Mike's. Johnny only recently started coming with me, but it's been pretty fun. The nights typically just consist of regular NBC Thursday night line-up + dinner + Project Runway. David and Donson came over (is it gross that every now and then I still get the urge to call him Ddogg? I mean, he is 30 now. It is still his screen name though... I'll think on this some more) and then eventually Val came over after her class.

I bought a Double Down and a bunch of KFC little buckets. I just wanted to try it. We cut it up into little pieces and tasted it. It's not really bad... it just tastes like chicken and cheese. I think it's the idea of eating it like a sandwich that's disturbing. It's just... wrong.

Seriously, Luke is SO CUTE. OMFG.

I keep trying to look up things to do in Boston. I just want to go eat places. And I am SO EXCITED about the Red Sox game that I'm going to :) I got tickets for Buddy and myself. Jenny suggested it because she'll be there with her family and I'm pretty sure Tim's family too. I used to say that one of my goals was to attend a game in every ballpark in America. I don't think I got a shotglass from the time I went to Petco Park to see the Padres play. It's hard to remember though... if only I had a way to display all my shotglasses...

Special Agent Seeley Booth. oaeiwfklsdnrkjlgalksfd

I'm helping Lisa and Mike pack on Sunday, I think. With the stipulation that I get to watch Bones... :)

Bones.

OH MY GOD... BONES!

Things To Get Life In Order

Here are some things I need to do in order to get my life back together... it is currently in shambles!

1. Do laundry. I've been saying this for days.
2. Finish my damn book, or at least read SOMETHING.
3. GO TO THE GYM, DAMMIT! You were doing so well and then you fell off... and you said you'd get back on, but alas, you did not... and you SUCK.
4. You bought a Bible... read it.
5. You got yourself an "adoptaplatoon" penpal... WRITE TO YOUR PENPAL!
6. Focus.
7. Fucking lose that weight already you lazy ass mother HEIFER! (See what I just did there?)
8. Get inspired again.
9. Cook more... that one time was nice... DO IT AGAIN!
10. STOP TALKING TO YOURSELF VIA BLOGSPOT! KTHXBYESENS!

On a slightly better note, Buddy and I bought our tickets to Boston today! I know, I know, I was JUST THERE a year ago... but Jenny's graduating! I have to! :)

The school she's graduating from

Just another something I'm looking forward to seeing again... the beautiful flowers! :)

But of course, most of all, I'm excited to see my JenJar! ("Oh heyyyy!")

Let's Just Say, "I Fell Off!"

In the words of the great T-E-X-T-I-N-G Q-U-E-E-N, I did, in fact, fall off. Not quite the face of the earth, but the face of the blogosphere. Also the face of my gyming. The face of my reading as well. It started with those DAAAAAMN ALLERGIES!!!!

I told myself that it was a good enough excuse to eat a bit less healthy (I pretty much stopped tracking stuff on calorieking for about 2 weeks). This included eating ramen all over again (ugggggh it's so goooood) and not going to the gym as much. Not going to the gym as much resulted in me not reading my book as much, which makes me less inclined to read it at home if I haven't been reading it period. This means I just sit in front of the tv and veg out. Which was/is fun, as it was quite fruitful (I discovered Drunk History!) and I got to spend more time doing nothing with Johnny (which is usually some of the best times to spend with Johnny).

This past weekend was Rachel's Dance Party 2.0. Party favors this time around? Sunglasses that say Rachel Acevedo's Dancy Party 2.0. :) She's so awesome. We had a blast and I think all of us got sufficiently drunk (especially thanks to Suzie Salmon's in-betweens...) At one point in the night I told myself that I would hit on some girls for the boys and see if I can get some action. I literally turned around and talked to the first two girls that I saw which happened to be some... okay... girls. Apparently the boys would not have done anything had I been successful, but I DID get something out of it. First, I turned around and pulled a Regina George (or rather, Buddy Burkhalter) and commented on the girl's shirt by telling her I loved it. I didn't necessarily really love it, but it was green and I LOVE GREEN! Then we started talking about clothes shopping and how we gravitate towards our favorite color... then I asked them what was in their metal shakers, cause the boys had asked about it before... and apparently it was basically a mexican martini and sangria... of which BOTH girls let us try. I didn't ask, but she was like "freakin' drink it, come on" so I did. They also let the boys have some. Eventually they left and Buddy and Johnny just shook their heads at me. Rachel, I think, got more drunk than anyone, which is awesome... cause it's Rachel.

Anyway, here are some things I know I need to start doing again now that I got back "on" after having fallen off:

1. 5/7 days at the gym again
2. Read more!
3. LAUNDRY!
4. Try to cook more... not ramen
5. One night a week dedicated to reading... somewhere. (e.g., coffee shop. Cause this always makes me happy).

I'll say this, the lack of doing much of anything has definitely done well for my banking account!

Random Things On My Mind Tonight

I hate it when I haven't synced my iphone to my computer in awhile and I finally do and my songs don't scrobble onto itunes.  It's happened the last couple times.  This = HUNDREDS of unscrobbled tracks.  This makes me feel as if I've been wasting my music listening time.  This is absurd, I know, but I can't help but feel this way.

I really am glad Oro's okay.  It's kind of funny that it's Oro, because he is probably the only person it could happen to and I wouldn't freak out about it.  But he's Oro.  He's the luckiest person alive.  Now if only he would just call in so they could account for him...

HOT TUB TIME MACHINE WAS SO GOOD!  That's all I can really say about it.

I don't want Amanda to go off to college/army.

I'm currently downloading the Lady Antebellum cds.  I don't care TOO much for them... I only know like... 2 or 3 songs, but I do kind of like them... and it'll be fun to go out with the office girls for a show!  :)  Oh yeah, we're going to the Austin Rodeo... apparently they're playing!  This will be a couple weeks after I see Tay Tay, so they've got a lot to compete with.

I REALLY NEED THESE ALLERGIES TO STOP TRYING TO KILL ME!

Kate Whore-man's husband sent me an e-mail today likening his wife with the Olympic gold medalist, Shaun White.  It was quite possibly one of the best things I saw today.

Strike that, it almost was, but then I saw HOT TUB TIME MACHINE!!!!!!!!

La Roux's "Cover My Eyes" is currently one of my favorite songs... I've also been listening a lot to the Smiths again... "Panic" is still one of my faves.  Umm... this is embarrassing but whatevs.  I had one of those "Monkey Hatchet/Does He Have It" moments recently.  If you've seen Ellen's "Here and Now" stand up, you know what I'm talking about (I'm pointing at you, LC).  There was a line... which I guess I never figured didn't really make sense... I thought it said, "And if a Devil dare cavorts... crashes into us... to die by your side is such a Heavenly way to die."  But alas, the true line is, "And if a double decker bus crashes into us..."  At least I got the end right?

I've been feeling restless with my life lately... and the line from that song, "Take me out tonight... oh take me anywhere... I don't care I don't care I don't care..." is the best line for my current attitude.

I bought a Bible.  It's pretty and blue and a very soft leather.  I told Sarah I'd read some stuff with her.  I've never really read the Bible.  Once, I tried to read it front to back, but I'm pretty sure I stopped during the "introduction" where they explained to me "how to" read the Bible, and what things mean and what type of translation it was.  It was a bit overwhelming and it hadn't even started yet...

ANYWAY...

Time for bed early I think.  I'm excited for this weekend of nothing... because I need time to rehabilitate.  Maybe Johnny and I will find out a way to play LCR with just the two of us...

Oh yeah, I didn't do my week count:

I'll Only Talk About The Good

Okay, I lied. Let's just throw the bad at there and have it out:

- I didn't work out Saturday
- I didn't work out Sunday
- I haven't read all weekend.
- I'm pretty sure I played scrabble (or "Words with Friends") for about 10 hours on Saturday.
- I almost didn't bowl over 100.
- I felt like a bloated bag of potato chips for most of Saturday afternoon.
- REALITY DOES BITE.
- I did not jump on Big Kate's trampoline.
- Thomas buying hot dogs for our pigs in blankets because he couldn't find the lil smokies. (Even after I google imaged them for him to see what they looked like!)

The Good:

- FINDING the lil smokies at the same grocery store that Thomas claims they did not exist in.
- I found a beautiful dress by Ruffian at Anthro that was originally $288 and on sale for $29.95. I think I literally checked the tag like, 5 times cause I couldn't believe it was true.
- I also got the purple sweater dress that Lisa has in red. It's so pretty!
- I DID indeed bowl over 100 (with I think a high of... 142? something like that?)
- I kicked Thomas ass each time.
- Lisa decided that Ernest Hemingway's six-word story is not sad. Instead, it's funny. In Luke's case, he has some baby shoe's that have never been worn--that's cause his feet were too fat!
- The Saints won!
- I got to see Big Kate's adorable home and her adorable family!
- Been girl gabbing with Emily. I love her.

02/01/09 - 02/07/09 Totals:
Days of the week spent exercising: 3/7
Minutes spent exercising: 233
Calories burned: 2,001
Weight: +20 (I'm actually not hating this considering I lazied out 4 days in a row!)
