Vietnam Part 9: Back in Hanoi

If I'm being honest, I think Sommer and I were a little travel pooped.  We spent a large part of our day watching DVDs and movies in bed.  I went and got us food at Joma (cause, duh, it's awesome), I went shopping at Magonn, (cause, duh, it's awesome), and then we met David & Zoe at another location of Quan An Ngon (cause, duh, it's... you get the point).

Joma goodies

 Vietnamese Modcloth Boutique

Love love love

My purchase.  Love it!

Quan An Ngon

An Ngon indeed

We're just happy with any kind of food, really.

And... yes.  This was our bathroom's setup.

Vietnam Part 6: Saigon Day 2

David and I went strolling around Saigon to and from church at Nha Tho Duc Ba (aka Notre Dame in Saigon).  I took a photo of the church... but then deleted it, because... I could imagine my mom going "You're in church, you're not supposed to be taking pictures."  So I... got rid of the evidence.  Ha!

This day was mostly spent wandering around.  Then we met up with my cousins Anh Linh and Chi Loan and other family members.  This will be a picture heavy post (that is... if you didn't already consider the others picture heavy...)

Cute lil kids drawing on the sidewalk

We found some weird exercise equipment in the public parks...

So naturally David & Sommer had to get on it.

Back to Ben Thanh to get some grub

David chowing down on some pho.  Zoe seems to think something's funny.  I wish I could remember what! :)

Sommer's favorite dish: Banh Xeo

Opera House

Hotel, which has (or at least used to have) a movie theater.  My dad said he and my mom went on a date (... with my grandpa) to see Ben Hur here.

David and I in front of the Independence Palace (formerly, Presidential Palace)

Taking a break.  The place was huge.

David in the war room, you know, talking war stuff.

In the taxi, driving to Ton That Hiep.  (Ahead you can see the church in later photos)

Hanging out with the cousins in the home my dad lived in as a teenager

Feeding us fun fruits (David is not a fan)

The altar for Bac Tien at their house.

Interesting story: During the war when my dad was held captive, a report was written in the paper in Saigon that my dad was shot and had died. This photo was used during a church service and put on the family altar... Until, of course, my dad turned up alive in Saigon!  My brother Anh Van said the report actually said THE WHOLE FAMILY (my mom and my 6 siblings) died.  Weird.

David & I in front of #27, where my mom and her family lived.

The church down the street.  Which explains a lot.  A lot.

The cousins took us out to dinner

I cried like a baby when we said bye.  I'm a softy.  Love my family.
